Alexandra J. Reens, MD

As an emergency physician, I focus on preserving patient autonomy by providing all necessary information and medical guidance to help individuals make healthcare decisions that best suit their lives. At NYU Langone, I am privileged to serve as the director of the Pediatric Emergency Department and as a core faculty member for NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine’s Emergency Medicine Residency.

I specialize in treating patients of all ages, from children to adults, who consider their condition an emergency. This spectrum includes minor diagnoses that require explanation or reassurance, as well as critical situations like cardiac arrest. I am proficient in performing various emergency procedures.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to proactive involvement in healthcare, ensuring that my patients receive the highest quality of care. I am part of a team that provides emergency care around the clock, every day of the year, striving to deliver the best possible experience for our patients. My work is driven by the appreciation from adult patients, the hugs from pediatric patients, and the knowledge that my care has enabled someone to recover well from a serious illness.

My path into medicine began at a young age when I volunteered as a candy striper in Mineola, Long Island. The variety, intensity, and camaraderie I encountered during my first clinical rotation in an emergency department during medical school confirmed my decision to specialize in emergency medicine. Today, I am fortunate to engage in work that I love, continually inspired by the resilience and strength of my patients.
