Jeffrey A. Manko, MD

As an emergency medicine physician at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. My journey into medicine began as a physics major and teaching assistant who volunteered as an emergency medical technician on local ambulances. While preparing for a career in engineering, I discovered my true passion lay in the personal encounters I experienced in the field, caring for the acutely ill and injured. Being on the frontline meant providing comfort to patients through their worst days and doing my best to relieve their pain and suffering. Emergency medicine became the obvious choice as a specialty, and I take great pride in the motto: caring for anyone, anytime, anywhere.

I specialize in emergency medicine, with over three decades of experience at NYU Langone. My extensive training and commitment to education have allowed me to mentor medical students as a Violet Society Advisor and train hundreds of emergency medicine residents as the program director of the Emergency Medicine Residency. Additionally, I serve as the director of GME Professional Development for faculty across the institution. My dedication to developing innovative education curricula, promoting lifelong learning, and creating a culture of psychological safety for experiential learning are hallmarks of my educational philosophy. In recognition of my contributions, I was honored with the prestigious University Distinguished Teaching Award in 2024.

Throughout my career, I have focused on balancing clinical responsibilities with my passion for education. I wake up every day thinking about how we can take better care of our patients and improve medical education and training. These are the cornerstones of my commitment to my patients today, as well as the multitude of patients my trainees will care for in the future. My role at NYU Langone allows me to provide coordinated, seamless care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for my patients.
