Research Summary

I grew up folding dumplings at the kitchen table with my family, which is why I care about how access to healthful food can nourish a child’s growth, development, and well-being.

My research program studies how differences in environments and experiences shape early nutrition security— the sustainable access, affordability, and intake of healthful foods in pregnancy and early childhood. I seek to pull together data from participant voices, biomarkers of stress, and maps to understand how policies and programs may contribute to differences in healthy growth and well-being across the life course. I then focus on how pediatric primary care can promote early nutrition security and relational health in the context of cumulative and longitudinal experiences of adverse social determinants of health.

As a general pediatrician, I care for children from infancy through adolescence in the primary care clinic as well as infants in the first few days of life in the inpatient newborn nursery at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. I also find joy in working with and learning from medical students, residents, and fellows, engaging them in a shared mission to promote children’s health and to further the science of pediatrics.
