Ian M. Ahearn, MD, PhD

As a dermatologist at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to my patients. My passion for medicine stems from the personal and professional fulfillment I gain from helping others. I am committed to fostering strong patient–provider partnerships, ensuring that my patients feel heard and supported throughout their healthcare journey.

I specialize in all aspects of medical dermatology, with a particular focus on managing chronic skin conditions such as neoplastic (cancerous), infectious, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases. I am board certified in dermatology and hold a doctoral degree in molecular pharmacology, which enhances my understanding of the molecular and cellular events underlying various skin diseases. With years of experience in the field, I am well-equipped to offer expert care and innovative treatments to my patients.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in collaborative care, serving as a consulting physician for inpatient teams. This role allows me to work with a diverse group of healthcare professionals, ensuring coordinated and seamless care for my patients. My intellectual pursuits are centered on advancing our knowledge of skin diseases, and I am privileged to work alongside colleagues who share this commitment to improving patient outcomes.

My journey into medicine was inspired by my upbringing in a family of teachers in the New York Metropolitan area. Although I am the first in my family to pursue a career in medicine, the values of dedication and continuous learning have always been a part of my life. I am also deeply committed to training and mentoring the next generation of physicians and scientists, which continuously enhances my clinical practice. It is an honor to be part of NYU Langone, where I can contribute to the advancement of dermatological care and research.
