As an infectious disease specialist at NYU Langone, my philosophy revolves around proactive healthcare engagement and fostering strong partnerships between patients and providers to promote overall health and wellness. I find great fulfilment in my role, particularly in addressing the unique needs of the Hispanic and Latinx communities at the Virology Clinic at Bellevue Hospital.

I specialize in managing a wide array of infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on HIV care. My extensive training includes a residency in internal medicine at BronxCare Health System and a fellowship in infectious diseases and immunology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. My role as principal investigator at the Vaccine Center has involved multiple clinical trials for vaccines, including those for COVID-19, shingles, influenza, and mpox, highlighting my commitment to advancing medical knowledge and patient care. Additionally, at Bellevue Hospital, I provide inpatient infectious disease consultations alongside fellows and participate in outbreak responses to significant infectious diseases, such as mpox and COVID-19.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in both clinical and basic science research. My projects have focused on viruses like Zika and chikungunya, and I have played a significant role in educating future infectious disease specialists. My contributions have been recognized through prestigious awards, including the Teacher of the Year award in 2021 and the Junior Investigator of the Year award in 2024 from the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium (IDCRC). I am also proud to have participated in public vaccine education events alongside notable figures such as Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Carlos del Rio.

Driven by a passion for science and a commitment to improving public health, I moved to the United States in 2012 to further my career. My experiences as a research assistant at the Columbia Glomerular Center and subsequent roles at NYU Langone have shaped my approach to patient care and research. As the associate director for research and diversity at NYU Langone’s Vaccine Center and a lead attending for the Supporting, Educating, and Enriching Diversity (SEED) Mentoring Program, I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse medical community.

Research Summary

My research focuses on vaccine-preventable infectious diseases. I am the Associate Director for Research and Diversity at the NYU Langone Vaccine Center. I lead important investigator-initiated studies, and phase I, II, III vaccine clinical trials of COVID-19, Shingles, Influenza, Mpox, RSV, C.diff, GBS, yellow fever virus, HIV among others.

I am interested in vaccine equity and in communicating vaccine science especially for minoritized groups such as Hispanics or Latinx. I have been invited to multiple public events on vaccine education for the Latinx community next to important figures such Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis (Director of HIV Prevention, CDC), Dr. Carlos del Rio (former President of the IDSA) and Dr. David Chokshi (former NYC Health Commissioner).

Additionally, I have a deep interest in Global Health. I lead an international project on antimicrobial stewardship in low resource settings, and I am an active mentor and educator of future infectious diseases specialists in international settings.
