Israel Gonzalez, MD

As an emergency medicine physician at NYU Langone, I am passionate about providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients during some of the most important and uncertain moments of their lives. I chose emergency medicine because it combines critical thinking, medical knowledge, hands-on procedures, and teamwork while allowing me to care for patients with a wide range of conditions and needs.

Throughout my career, I have been continually reminded of the importance of being there for patients when they are frightened or unsure of what is happening. I believe that excellent emergency care involves not only quickly recognizing and treating serious medical conditions, but also listening to patients, communicating clearly, and providing reassurance during stressful circumstances.

I care for patients across a broad spectrum of medical conditions, ranging from common illnesses and injuries to complex and life-threatening emergencies. I particularly enjoy the variety and challenge of emergency medicine, including the evaluation and treatment of cardiac emergencies, abnormal heart rhythms, respiratory conditions, infections, traumatic injuries, and other acute medical problems.

My philosophy is to treat the patient, not simply the diagnosis. I strive to combine evidence-based medical care with compassion, clear communication, and shared decision-making. What I enjoy most about patient care is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, often at a time when they need help the most.
