Pouyan Namakydoust, MD

As a dedicated palliative care physician at NYU Langone Palliative Care Associates, I specialize in inpatient consultations for patients confronting serious or potentially terminal illnesses. I manage patients with symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, and nausea across all stages of illness—whether patients are on the path to recovery, in a state of stabilization, or nearing the end of life.

My approach is rooted in evidence-based medicine, delivered within an interdisciplinary team that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of each patient.

Driven by an early fascination with the mechanics of the human body, I embarked on a career in medicine with a degree in biomedical engineering. Although I thrived in the scientific realm, I quickly realized that my true passion lay in the human connection—listening, understanding, and aiding individuals in navigating significant health decisions. This insight guided me towards internal medicine, where I acquired a broad skill set to care for complex patients.

During my third year of residency, I discovered my true calling in palliative care, a field that aligned with my core values. Palliative care allowed me to use modern medicine to ease suffering and offered the opportunity to truly understand patients as whole individuals. It granted me the privilege of supporting families through some of their most vulnerable moments.

My aim is to empower patients and families with the knowledge necessary to make choices that resonate with their values. I also assist primary teams at NYU Langone, offering expert guidance in navigating complex decisions with clarity and compassion, blending clinical insight with attentive listening to support patients and families as they traverse uncertain terrain.
