Colleen Dye, OD

As an NYU Langone pediatric optometrist, I examine the eyes of children. I can determine if children need glasses, if their eyes are working together optimally, and if their eyes are healthy, even if they are unable to read the letters on an eye chart. I examine children with strabismus, or any misalignment of the eyes. I use several methods to treat lazy eyes, also known as amblyopia. I also evaluate other eye problems, including infections, allergies, and injuries. I co-manage some patients with other specialists throughout the NYU Langone family of providers to ensure that children receive comprehensive care.

Having needed glasses from a young age myself, I initially became interested in a career in optometry during my own visits to the eye doctor. I was fascinated by the ability to use lights and lenses to examine an organ so small and delicate, yet so important.

Children are my passion. I factor in health conditions as well as developmental stages to provide a thorough eye exam for every patient. I am dedicated to treating children of all ages and abilities with the same patience and respect. I completed a residency in pediatric optometry, and I am a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
 
It is important to optimize the vision of every child to ensure the best chance of success in school, activities, and the rest of the child’s life. I work to see the world through a child’s eyes. My goal is to engage all my pediatric patients and to make their visit to the eye doctor fun.
