About Me
As a critical care physician at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to advancing the field of critical care through education and innovation. My professional approach centers on leveraging simulation-based training to enhance the skills of residents and fellows, ensuring they are well-prepared to manage patients who are the most critically ill. My commitment to patient care and medical education drives my efforts to continually improve training methodologies and patient outcomes.
I specialize in critical care medicine, with a particular focus on developing and implementing simulation-based educational programs. My work includes creating novel training methods for healthcare professionals to effectively manage complications in patients with tracheostomies. This specialized training is crucial for improving the care of high-risk patient populations and ensuring that healthcare providers are equipped with the necessary skills to handle complex medical situations.
Throughout my career, I have been instrumental in establishing and organizing a critical care-based simulation center at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System. This center, certified by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, serves as a hub for education, research, and fellowship training. My efforts have led to the training of numerous fellows who have gone on to incorporate simulation-based techniques in their own practices, thereby extending the impact of our work.
My journey into medicine began with early exposure to critical care during my medical studies at the State University of Buffalo School of Medicine. Inspired by my experiences and mentorship under Dr. Eric Rackow, I pursued a career dedicated to caring for the sickest patients. Over the years, my focus has shifted from direct patient care to education, where I continue to make significant contributions. I am honored to have received the Distinguished Educator Award from the American College of Chest Physicians three times and to have served on the Critical Care Medicine board for the American Board of Internal Medicine.
