From a young age, I was deeply influenced by my father, who was a respected and dedicated surgeon. Growing up, I often watched him interact with patients, offering not only medical care but also a sense of compassion and reassurance that left a lasting impact on me. The desire to learn, grow, and provide healing to others became an inherent part of my journey.

As a surgeon I’ve always been drawn to the challenge of managing complex, chronic conditions, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)—encompassing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis—perfectly aligned with my interests in digestive health, patient care, clinical research, and surgical innovation.

I’ve seen how difficult it can be for patients to manage the daily realities of IBD, from navigating the social and psychological burdens to dealing with the physical toll of the disease. Being part of a multidisciplinary team that works together to manage this condition is one of the most rewarding aspects of my practice. As I work alongside gastroenterologists, nurses, physician assistants, dietitians, and mental health professionals, I see the power of collaboration in treating this chronic disease from all angles, providing care that truly benefits the patients. The possibility to make a tangible difference in their quality of life is what continues to drive my passion for this field every day.

IBD presents a unique challenge to both surgeons and patients, often requiring complex interventions and long-term management. Over the last couple of decades, I have had the privilege to explore the transformative impact of advanced surgical techniques on the treatment of these patients. The benefits of minimally invasive techniques are profound. The robotic platform enhances my ability to perform complex resections, tissue reconnections, and even restorative surgeries with a level of accuracy that was previously difficult to achieve through traditional methods. Incorporating robotic surgery into my practice has reinforced my belief that we must continue to embrace innovation in healthcare. The ability to combine cutting-edge technology with compassionate care has opened up new possibilities for IBD patients, offering them a better, less painful, more hopeful future.
