I chose a career in medicine because it involves caring for people when they are most vulnerable, helping them heal, and addressing their physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Medicine is my calling because it incorporates my love of science and the humanistic art of caring for patients during illness. As an internist, I am constantly learning and expanding my knowledge to ensure the best care for my patients.

I see patients who are hospitalized for complex conditions, and I have no outpatient clinical responsibilities. Therefore, I am able to fully focus on my patients’ hospitalization, allowing me time to coordinate and discuss care with the medical team, including consultants, mid-levels, nurses, and case managers.

My colleagues and I are knowledgeable, dedicated, and compassionate. I am detail-oriented and spend an enormous amount of time at my patients’ bedsides listening to and obtaining detailed history and information. As the division chief of Hospital Medicine at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, I pride myself in our team’s outstanding patient care.

Because medicine is an art and a science, I treat the whole person. I listen closely to my patients, observing their nonverbal cues and providing a careful physical examination. I spend a great deal of time educating my patients and their families about the medical plan and incorporating them into the decision-making process. I also serve as a medical consultant to other services that need medical expertise on management and follow-up care.
