Denise Ruttgeizer, MD

As a pulmonary specialist at NYU Langone Pulmonary Associates—North Shore, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to my patients. My approach is centered on ensuring that patients feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their healthcare journey. I strive to create a calming and reassuring environment, helping my patients feel more hopeful and confident about their health.

I specialize in treating patients with a wide range of pulmonary conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and chronic respiratory failure. I also collaborate closely with NYU Langone’s subspecialty teams in pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, and bronchiectasis to provide advanced care when necessary. Additionally, I assist patients in accessing lung transplant services when needed.

With more than 28 years of experience in pulmonary medicine, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my practice. My career began in private practice on Long Island, and since 2016, I have been proud to be part of NYU Langone. My commitment to proactive healthcare engagement ensures that my patients receive the highest quality of care, tailored to their individual needs.

My journey into medicine was inspired by witnessing the profound impact a compassionate doctor can have on a patient’s wellbeing. I earned my medical degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 1991 and completed my internship, residency, and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Albert Einstein Montefiore Medical Center. This foundation has shaped my dedication to being an uplifting and calming presence for my patients, helping them navigate their health challenges with confidence.
