Research Summary

Avir Mitra MD is an Associate Professor of Emergency at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor and Assistant Program Director at the Icahn School of Medicine, where he was part of an NIH funded study investigating home-based tele-rehabilitation for COPD patients presenting to the Emergency Department. He also served as Clerkship Site Director for Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

Dr. Mitra is a sitting member of the ACEP Communications Committee and has lectured across the country on various topics within Emergency Medicine. He is a contributing editor at Radiolab and has produced health and science stories for outlets such as NPR, WHYY, and Vice.

Dr. Mitra received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and completed medical school at the Drexel University College of Medicine, where he served as student body president. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency in 2018 at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Mitra enjoys sharing his interest in health and medicine with residents, students and the general public.
