About Me
My journey into medicine began in a small town in the Czech Republic, where I was fascinated by the work of our school physician. My early interest in biology and science evolved into a passion for medicine, leading to my graduation from Charles University Medical School in Prague.
My determination to succeed brought me to New York, where I participated in clinical research on the shingles vaccine, sparking my interest in internal medicine.
I am an academic hospitalist at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, dedicated to providing compassionate and age-sensitive care to adult patients in the hospital. As a dual-certified physician in internal medicine and geriatrics, I treat patients in the hospital who are acutely ill, with special attention to the unique needs of the older population.
I care for patients with a wide range of conditions—from common infections to complex cardiac and pulmonary diseases, which require close collaboration with multiple subspecialists. Additionally, I provide medical consultations for surgical, orthopedic, and neurology patients, facilitating continuity and comprehensive care throughout their hospitalization.
I believe that excellent communication and shared decision-making, involving patients and their families, are essential to achieve the best outcomes.
Throughout my career, I have actively contributed to quality improvement initiatives as a member of the hospital committees, enhancing patient care and hospital performance.
My passion for teaching drives me to mentor medical students and residents, keeping me engaged with the latest therapies and advances in medicine. I am honored to have received the Outstanding Faculty Teacher award from NYU Long Island Grossman School of Medicine and the Exceptionalism in Hospital Medicine award from NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island.
I am an active member of the American College of Physicians. In addition, I have presented my work at national Society of Hospital Medicine meetings, continually striving to improve patient care.
