Patrick J. Hurley, MD

As a psychiatrist at NYU Langone, I provide compassionate care for adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises. I strive to create a safe and collaborative environment where patients feel seen, heard, and actively engaged in their recovery process. My clinical approach is both structured and flexible, and rooted in the belief that effective treatment requires both analytical rigor and emotional insight.

I specialize in treating severe mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, particularly in patients facing crisis situations. My clinical practice combines medication management with targeted psychotherapy, tailored to the unique needs of each individual. This holistic approach ensures that treatment plans are both effective and reflective of the patient’s lived experiences.

Before joining NYU Langone, I trained and worked at Columbia, where I served as a psychiatry resident and later as an attending physician and associate medical director of the inpatient unit. This experience has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead the HCC10 inpatient unit at NYU Langone, where I work closely with a skilled team to provide thoughtful, high-quality care.

I was drawn to psychiatry by a passion for understanding people in context and a desire to help patients navigate some of the most challenging moments in their lives. Psychiatry sits at the intersection of medicine, ethics, law, social sciences, and public policy, making it a field that requires ongoing curiosity, humility, and interdisciplinary thinking. These qualities continue to inspire my work and commitment to patient care.
