Patricia D. Cherasard, PA

I am a board-certified physician assistant with more than 25 years of clinical experience in primary care, general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, and medical weight management. Over the past decade, I have focused on caring for patients with obesity, and for the last five years, my practice has been devoted almost exclusively to obesity medicine and medical weight management.

As an advanced practice provider (APP) manager and senior bariatric surgery physician assistant at NYU Langone Long Island Surgical Associates, I have helped develop and manage the bariatric surgery program and bring extensive experience in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery. My background in both surgical and medical care allows me to support patients at many different points in their health journey.

In my obesity medicine practice, I work closely with each patient to create a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan that supports sustainable weight loss and better overall health. I understand that obesity is a complex, chronic condition shaped by many factors, and I believe care should reflect each person’s unique medical history, lifestyle, goals, and challenges. My approach may include medication, nutrition guidance, lifestyle changes, and behavioral strategies, and I provide ongoing support every step of the way. I also have extensive experience managing anti-obesity medications, including GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists.

I have pursued advanced education in obesity medicine, earning certifications from the Obesity Medicine Association and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. These credentials, along with my years of clinical experience, reflect my commitment to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care.

In addition to my clinical work, I have a strong interest in academic medicine, research, and program development. I hold a doctorate in healthcare administration from Keiser University, an MBA from Metropolitan College of New York, and a bachelor's degree from St. John’s University. I completed my physician assistant training at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens. My doctoral research explored mobile health technologies and post-bariatric surgery outcomes, with a focus on improving patient engagement and long-term success.

I have also contributed to the field through publications, national presentations, and leadership roles, and I value mentoring future healthcare professionals. My experience bridging bariatric surgery and medical weight management allows me to provide comprehensive care across the full continuum of obesity treatment.

Most importantly, my goal is to help patients feel heard, supported, and empowered. I am committed to partnering with each patient to achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in health and quality of life.
