James R. Loftus, MD

As a neuroradiologist at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to advancing the field of diagnostic radiology through both patient care and research. My passion for this specialty began in my youth, inspired by shadowing my father and his colleagues. Today, I find immense satisfaction in interpreting complex imaging and performing procedures that aid in diagnosing and treating conditions of the central nervous system.

My clinical expertise includes imaging and procedures related to the brain and spinal cord. My dual training in nuclear medicine allows me to further specialize in hybrid molecular and anatomic imaging. This expertise is particularly beneficial in evaluating conditions such as dementia, epilepsy, and neuro-oncology using integrated positron emission tomography–magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI).

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in research aimed at improving diagnostic methods through molecular and anatomic imaging. My work is driven by the belief that future advancements in imaging will lead to more personalized and effective treatments for patients. I have been honored with numerous awards, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and have presented my research at both regional and international conferences. My findings have been published in some of the most respected journals in the field of radiology.

My journey into medicine was shaped by early experiences in an advanced imaging processing lab during my undergraduate studies, followed by rigorous residency and fellowship training. These experiences solidified my commitment to the field of neuroradiology. At NYU Langone, I am proud to be part of a diverse team that values coordinated, seamless care, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of medical attention.
