About Me
As a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in eating disorders, my clinical practice focuses on treating children and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and binge eating disorder. I am an associate professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine with dual faculty appointments in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry.
I was the founding co-director of the Child Study Center’s Feeding and Eating Disorder Service and have specialized training in first-line and adjunctive treatments for eating disorders, including Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), Family-Based Therapy (FBT) for anorexia nervosa, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I have been a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders since 2007, chaired their special interest group on bariatric surgery, and am a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.
Eating disorders often co-occur with other psychological disorders. To best serve my patients, I've cultivated additional expertise in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and childhood disruptive behavior disorders. Therapeutic approaches that guide my practice include cognitive-behavioral and exposure-based therapies and behavioral parenting interventions. Parent-Child Interaction Training (PCIT), Coping Cat, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and its adaptation for ARFID (SPACE-ARFID) are among the many empirically-based treatments I provide.
In addition to my clinical work, I am actively involved in forensic psychology. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in forensic psychology at Tulane University and conducted numerous court-ordered evaluations and attorney consultations in criminal, civil, and family law cases. I am the vice president of the Association for Family and Conciliation Courts’ New York Chapter and a member of the Interdisciplinary Forum on Mental Health and Family Law.
As an educator, I have had the privilege of sharing my expertise with graduate medical trainees, college students and the public at large. I teach an undergraduate course on children's use of media and am a frequent media contributor with over 100 appearances across television, print and digital platforms, including the New York Times, Fox News, National Public Radio, and SiriusXM Doctor Radio.
