Nicole Cruz, MD

I am a hematologist and oncologist at NYU Langone, dedicated to providing compassionate, thoughtful, and evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. I was drawn to hematology and oncology because of the field’s unique integration of science, problem-solving, and the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.

I care for a wide range of benign and malignant hematologic conditions, including anemia, iron deficiency, clotting and bleeding disorders, thrombocytosis, leukocytosis, and other abnormal blood count conditions. I also have extensive experience managing medically complex hospitalized patients undergoing intensive therapies, stem cell transplantation, and cellular therapies. My training across hematology and bone marrow transplant services has equipped me to care for patients in diverse clinical settings.

I value building lasting relationships with patients and their families, helping to improve their quality of life in meaningful ways. I deeply respect the trust that develops over time and embrace the opportunity to guide patients through various stages of their care.

Communication and patient education are central to my practice. Recognizing that hematologic conditions can feel overwhelming due to complex medical terminology, I prioritize explaining difficult concepts in a way that is approachable and easy to understand. I believe patients feel more empowered and less anxious when they have a clear understanding of their health and treatment plan.

In addition to clinical work, I am passionate about research. My background as a physician-scientist has strengthened my commitment to evidence-based medicine and advancing patient care through scientific discovery. I was honored to receive the Damon Runyon Physician-Scientist Training Award, a prestigious national recognition supporting physician-scientists conducting translational cancer research.
