Postprocedure Care After Catheter Ablation

You may continue to experience arrhythmias for up to six weeks after catheter ablation. Your NYU Langone doctor may prescribe medication to correct a fast or chaotic heart rhythm that occurs for more than 24 hours. Occasionally, they may perform an additional catheter ablation. If you have any questions or concerns, please call your doctor.

Cardiac Device Management

If you have a pacemaker or cardiac loop recorder, our experts provide remote monitoring after the ablation. Monitoring ensures that the device is working properly and arrhythmia recurrence is followed closely. It takes place at our Heart Rhythm Center or, most often, via telephone lines, cellular networks, or the internet.

Stress Management

Experts at the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease offer information about techniques to help reduce stress for people with heart conditions. These include massage therapy and acupuncture. Our specialists also teach stress reduction skills. You can participate in individual or group sessions that take place over six weeks.

Nutritional Guidance

Lifestyle changes can help prevent or manage arrhythmias. Registered dietitians offer nutritional evaluation and help you make healthful dietary choices. They also help you better understand the impact of diet on conditions that affect the heart, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease.
