What Sets Us Apart

Nasopharyngeal cancer develops in the nasopharynx, the top part of the throat, behind the nose.

At NYU Langone’s Head and Neck Center, part of the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, our radiation oncologists use advanced technology to destroy nasopharyngeal cancer while preserving nearby healthy tissue. They work closely with medical oncologists, who prescribe medications to treat people with this condition. Our surgical oncologists, head and neck surgeons, and neurosurgeons may also be involved in your treatment.

At NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, we personalize the care of every patient.More About Perlmutter Cancer Center

CLINICAL TRIALS and Research Studies

Our teams of physicians and scientists work together across multiple disciplines to bring our patients the most innovative clinical trials.Find a Clinical Trial

Doctors at NYU Langone participate in clinical trials that offer access to sophisticated imaging techniques that help doctors diagnose nasopharyngeal cancer and guide treatment decisions. These methods also help doctors monitor the way cancer responds to treatment.

Nasopharyngeal cancer and its treatment can affect your ability to swallow, so NYU Langone speech and swallowing therapists may be an important part of your care. NYU Langone also offers counseling and integrative health services to help people cope with the condition and physical therapy at Rusk Rehabilitation to manage treatment side effects.

Treatment at NYU Langone

Physicians typically treat early nasopharyngeal cancer with radiation therapy alone. Chemoradiation—a combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy—is used to manage more advanced cancer. Surgery is an option for cancer that does not respond to these therapies or that is limited to the nasopharynx.
