Specialists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone have diagnosed and treated hundreds of children and adolescents with Blount disease, a condition that affects the growth plates in the lower legs. Blount disease causes the bones to curve outward, creating a space between the legs and knees that is often referred to as “bowed legs.”
Our orthopedic specialists are skilled at detecting the subtle differences between the bowed legs common to some infants and toddlers and the progressive curvature seen in children with Blount disease. They focus on identifying this condition as early as possible, when it is easier to correct without surgery.
