Sports Performance Center Team

The Sports Performance Center team is made up of experts with a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience in exercise physiology, sports psychology, and nutrition.

Heather A. Milton, MS, RCEP, CSCS, Exercise Physiologist Clinical Specialist

Ms. Milton is a board-certified clinical exercise physiologist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. She is certified in Functional Movement Systems® and by the Titleist Performance Institute. She develops specialized programs to help athletes reach their maximum potential and ability. She also creates unique and motivational programs to inspire health and fitness clients, and designs injury prevention programs for at-risk athletes. In addition to performing a variety of metabolic and biomechanical evaluations, Ms. Milton is a founding member of the Pitching Analysis program, the Return to Sports program, and the Hockey Center. Ms. Milton leads the wellness class at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center and is a clinician with the Golf Lab, Running Lab, and Strength and Conditioning Class for Runners.

Rondel King, MS, CSCS, CES, Exercise Physiologist

Mr. King is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and corrective exercise specialist. Mr. King has experience working in soccer and basketball, where he creates individualized exercise programs to help athletes reduce the likelihood of injuries and to maximize performance. In addition, he also has experience working with clinical populations. Through cutting edge techniques, Mr. King’s programming aims to bring out the best in a person’s health and performance. He has a strong interest in postural asymmetries and the nervous system as it relates to biomechanics, human performance, and general health.

Samantha Heller, MS, RDN, Clinical Nutritionist

Ms. Heller is a registered dietitian and exercise physiologist. She has expertise in chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Her clinical interests also include weight management and sports. She is the host of “Samantha Heller’s Health and Nutrition Show” on SiriusXM Radio’s Doctor Radio station and author of The Only Cleanse: A 14-Day Natural Detox Plan to Jump-Start a Lifetime of Health. Ms. Heller is a clinician with the Running Lab.

Nicole Lund, MS, RDN, Clinical Nutritionist

Ms. Lund is a registered dietitian and certified personal trainer. She has expertise in sports and performance nutrition. Ms. Lund is a clinician with the Running Lab.

Bonnie Marks, PsyD, Staff Psychologist

Dr. Marks specializes in mindfulness and recovery from injury, sports psychology, and meditation. She performs neuropsychological evaluations, cognitive remediation, and psychotherapy, and she leads presentations on integrative medicine. She serves as a guide for athletes with disabilities during the New York City Marathon and volunteers with the USA Women’s Wrestling Team as a consultant on performance issues.

Andrea Ybarra, CPT, CYES, Program Coordinator

Ms. Ybarra is the primary point of contact for all Sports Performance Center programs and services. She helps develop wellness programs and coordinates The Running Lab. Her areas of expertise include health promotion and education, personal training, weight management, and senior and youth fitness. She leads group fitness classes at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center.

Jolan Browne, DPT, PT, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Browne is a senior physical therapist. She is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in orthopedics. Her clinical interests include postoperative and conservative management of shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries. A former track athlete, she enjoys running and biking and looks forward to completing her first triathlon. At the Running Lab, she performs foot and ankle assessments.

Wil Colón, PT, MS, SCS, Clinical Specialist

Mr. Colón is a clinical specialist. He specializes in the management and prevention of orthopedic and sports injuries. Certified as a clinical specialist in sports physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, Mr. Colón is also involved in the clinical education and mentoring of staff physical therapists. A founding member of the Running Lab, his interests lie in video analysis and foot and ankle injuries in runners.

Belkys DeJesus, Administrative Assistant

Ms. DeJesus helps organize, set up, and schedule the Running Lab and wellness classes. She received the NYU Langone Team Spotlight Award in 2005.

Juli Deng, DPT, PT, OCS, SCS, Cert. MDT, Clinical Specialist

Dr. Deng is a clinical specialist. She is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in both orthopedic and sports physical therapy and is certified by the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. She is credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association as an advanced clinical instructor. Her areas of specialty and interest include orthopedic evaluation and management of mechanical spine disorders, postsurgical and overuse sports injuries, and running-related injuries. As a member of the Running Lab team, Dr. Deng performs strength and flexibility assessments and develops runners’ final reports.

Gauri S. Dhamnaskar, PT, MS, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Ms. Dhamnaskar is a senior II physical therapist, certified orthopedic clinical specialist, and is credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association as an advanced clinical instructor. She is a Graston Technique® provider focusing on soft tissue mobilization and is certified in the Kinesio Taping® Method. Her clinical interests include rehabilitation of postsurgical trauma and sports-related injuries of the upper and lower extremities. As a member of the Running Lab, Ms. Dhamnaskar performs strength and flexibility assessments, develops runners’ final reports, and speaks at the marathon lecture series. An avid short- to mid-distance runner, she practices Pranayama yoga, which focuses on breath control.

Corina Ehrenberg, PT, Senior Physical Therapist

Ms. Ehrenberg is a senior physical therapist. She is certified in Functional Movement Systems® and Astym® and is a Pilates mat instructor. Ms. Ehrenberg’s clinical interests include manual therapy and treatment of running, sports-related, and dance injuries. She performs foot and ankle assessments for the Running Lab.

Jennifer Gallinaro, DPT, PT, OCS, Supervisor

Dr. Gallinaro is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in orthopedics. In addition to having obtained Medical Level 2 Certification through the Titleist Performance Institute, Dr. Gallinaro is a Functional Movement Screen professional and a certified Pilates mat instructor. Her areas of specialty and clinical interest include postoperative shoulder rehabilitation and golf- and running-related injuries. A founding member of the Running Lab, Dr. Gallinaro conducts video analysis. She also is a founding member of the Golf Lab.

Melissa Hirsch, DPT, PT, OCS, Cert. MDT, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Hirsch is a senior II physical therapist. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She is also certified by the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. Her clinical interests include the treatment of running injuries and the management of spine dysfunction. At the Running Lab, Dr. Hirsch performs strength and flexibility assessments, develops runners’ final reports, and speaks at the marathon lecture series.

Rick Kassler, PT, MSPT, OCS, SCS, Program Manager

Mr. Kassler is program manager of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and the Sports Performance Center. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in both orthopedic and sports physical therapy. His areas of interest include sports medicine postoperative care and sports- and running-related injuries. As a founding member of the Running Lab, Mr. Kassler moderates educational sessions for our runners.

Mira Kaufman, DPT, PT, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Kaufman is a senior physical therapist. Certified as a clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, she is credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association as an advanced clinical instructor and is trained and certified in Functional Movement Systems®, lymphedema management, and vestibular rehabilitation. Dr. Kaufman’s areas of clinical interest include running and sports overuse injuries and concussion-related neck injuries. She performs strength and flexibility assessments for the Running Lab. A former competitive tennis player, she now enjoys yoga, running, hiking, and backpacking.

James Koo, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT, COMT, Supervisor

Dr. Koo is an outpatient physical therapy supervisor. He is board certified as a clinical specialist in both orthopedic and sports physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is a certified orthopedic manual therapist and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. Dr. Koo maintains an active clinical practice, specializing in orthopedic and sports manual physical therapy and subspecializing in treating runners and triathletes. A founding member of the Running Lab, he performs video analysis and moderates educational sessions. He also is a founding member of the Golf Lab. Dr. Koo has a black belt in tae kwon do and is a volleyball setter, a marathon runner, and an Ironman triathlon finisher.

Fiona Moore, DPT, PT, OCS, SCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Moore is a senior II physical therapist. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics and sports through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Moore is certified in Functional Movement Systems®. Her areas of specialty and clinical interest include orthopedic manual therapy, treatment of overuse and sports-related injuries, and movement analysis. At the Running Lab, Dr. Moore conducts foot and ankle assessments and develops runners’ final reports. A former internationally ranked swimmer and collegiate water polo player, Dr. Moore now enjoys sprint triathlons, running, and swimming.

April O’Connell, OT/L, CHT, ACSM, TPI, Clinical Specialist

Ms. O’Connell is a clinical specialist. She is a certified hand therapist and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a clinical exercise specialist. She earned her degree in occupational therapy degree from Boston University. She has lectured to orthopedic surgeons and therapists nationally and internationally in current concepts of orthopedic rehabilitation of the upper extremity. She is a founding member of the Golf Lab at NYU Langone.

Eric Ross, DPT, PT, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Ross is a senior physical therapist. He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in orthopedics.  In addition to having obtained a Level 1 Certification through the Titleist Performance Institute, Dr. Ross is a certified Kinesio Taping® practitioner and is currently working on becoming a certified manual therapist through the Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars. His areas of specialty and interest include sports rehabilitation and golf and hockey-related injuries. A founding member of the Golf Lab, Dr. Ross conducts strength and flexibility analysis.

Alexandra Russomano Nelson, DPT, PT, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Nelson is a senior physical therapist. She performs the foot and ankle assessment at the Running Lab. She is a certified Kinesio Taping® practitioner, as well as an advanced American Physical Therapy Association-credentialed clinical instructor. An athlete and runner herself, Dr. Nelson is passionate about helping her patients minimize injury and maximize efficiency.

Bethany Ridenhour DPT, PT, OCS, CSCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Ridenhour is a senior physical therapist. As a member of the Running Lab, Dr. Ridenhour performs strength and flexibility assessments and speaks at the marathon lecture series. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Ridenhour is certified in Functional Movement Systems®, is a certified Ironman coach, and is a clinical instructor credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association. She runs triathlons and completed four Half Ironman distance races.

Mark Schulingkamp, DPT, PT, OCS, SCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Schulingkamp is a senior physical therapist. He is board certified as a clinical specialist in orthopedics and sports through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He manages traumatic and repetitive athletic injuries at both the Running Lab and Concussion Center. At the Running Lab, Dr. Schulingkamp performs running video analysis and strength and flexibility assessments. He also develops runners’ final reports.

Monica Seu, OTR/L, CHT, CLT, Senior Occupational Therapist

Monica is a senior II occupational therapist. She is a certified hand therapist and has obtained her level 1 certification through Titleist Performance Institute. Monica’s areas of specialty and clinical interests include post-surgical and nonsurgical management of the upper extremity including the shoulder, elbow, and hand as well as golf-related injuries pertaining to the upper extremity. Monica’s role in the Golf Lab is to assess the strength and flexibility of clients.

Kate VanDamme, DPT, PT, OCS, Cert. TMM, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. VanDamme is a senior II physical therapist. She is certified in the management of temporomandibular joint disorders and as an orthopedic clinical specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. A distance runner, Dr. VanDamme takes special interest in the evaluation and treatment of runners and postoperative athletes. At the Running Lab, she performs foot and ankle assessments.

Will Vandenberg, MS, Biomechanist

Will Vandenberg is a biomechanist. He received his Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering and biomechanics from Tufts University. A pitcher during his time at Tufts, he helps people prevent injury and improve athletic performance. He is a member of the Golf Lab.

Scott Young, Golf Pro

Mr. Young is a AAA-rated Professional Golfers Association of Australia member, and has been a member of the organization for 18 years. As a touring golf professional, he has traveled the globe for 10 years playing in more than 80 full tour events, Mr. Young combines personal experience in pure ball striking with knowledge of human physiology and golf specific biomechanics.
