Michael Zimmerman, MD

As an emergency physician at NYU Langone, my philosophy of care is centered around the patient. Everything I do—including spending time at the bedside, to teaching residents, to performing emergency ultrasound, to working on system improvements behind the scenes—is aimed at providing the best possible care. I am passionate about my work, and I find it incredibly rewarding to guide patients through some of their most challenging moments.

My specialty lies in emergency medicine, where I have the privilege of helping anyone who walks through the door. I am also trained and certified as an advanced emergency ultrasound provider, and I can perform transesophageal echocardiography to guide the resuscitation of critical patients and those in cardiac arrest.

My journey into medicine began with an interest in materials science and engineering, as well as world travel and service. As I was exposed to all areas of medicine, I realized that emergency medicine incorporated the use of science and technology for the human body in a wide array of conditions and environments, matching my interests and skills. I am fortunate to have many examples of why I am passionate about my work, from teaching and mentoring to applying ultrasound skills to resuscitation and saving lives. It is this passion that drives me to provide proficient and advanced emergency medical care in the New York area.

Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to proactive healthcare engagement. I believe in the importance of patient research and value independent, third-party reviews. My commitment to overall health and wellness extends to my work at NYU Langone, where I am a faculty member of the emergency departments at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island and Long Island Community Hospital.
