Armin Arshi, MD

As a member of the orthopedic team at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, I specialize in the full spectrum of hip and knee care, including both nonsurgical and surgical options.

We do our best to make surgery a last resort, starting with noninvasive treatment options, including anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and home exercise programs, in-office injections, and bracing. For those requiring surgery, we perform anterior total hip replacement, a less invasive surgical technique that minimizes disturbing the surrounding muscle and tendons for faster recovery; robotic-assisted surgery; total and partial knee replacement; and revision surgery, for those with failed prior joint replacement.

After graduating both college and medical school as the top student in my class, I chose a career in orthopedic surgery because I love working with my hands and having the ability to make a significant change in people’s daily lives. I also have a background in biomedical engineering, which provides me with a unique perspective and understanding in managing orthopedic problems. As someone who values physical fitness and activity as a part of daily life, it is a privilege to treat patients with musculoskeletal conditions and to help them achieve their functional goals.

Though degenerative joint disease is more common among older patients, it can affect people of all ages and activity levels. As techniques and implants have improved, more people are candidates for treatment of joint disease at a younger age and can expect better outcomes.

In addition to caring for patients, I am actively involved in teaching and clinical and biomechanics research, both at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and nationally. My research interests include implant design in hip and knee replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, patient outcomes in joint replacement, and returning to sports and physical activities after joint replacement.

I have received numerous awards and grants for my work and have published over 70 peer reviewed articles and textbook chapters aimed at advancing our field. I am an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
