Asher D. Aladjem, MD

As a physician at NYU Langone, I am deeply committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to my patients. My philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that a trusting and dependable doctor–patient relationship is essential for effective treatment. I have dedicated my career to the interface of medicine and psychiatry, focusing on the holistic wellbeing of my patients.

With over four decades of experience, I specialize in treating co-morbid medical–psychiatric conditions. My extensive background includes pioneering work in the psychiatric treatment of HIV/AIDS during the height of the AIDS pandemic. I have also been at the forefront of addressing trauma and PTSD in healthcare, integrating cross-cultural perspectives and trauma-informed interventions. My fluency in six languages allows me to connect with a diverse patient population, ensuring that everyone receives the care they need.

Throughout my career, I have been involved in various aspects of medical and psychiatric care, from managing the complexities of psychopharmacology to employing eclectic psychotherapy modalities. My work has spanned the treatment of chronic conditions, including cancer, where I combine medication management with therapeutic interventions to support my patients through some of the most challenging treatments.

My journey into medicine was inspired by my own experience with polio as a child. Witnessing the global eradication of polio and the development of the Salk and Sabin vaccines profoundly impacted my understanding of the importance of prevention, medical treatment, and mental health interventions. This early experience fueled my passion for medicine and my commitment to improving the lives of my patients.

I am proud to be part of NYU Langone, where I collaborate with a dedicated team to provide coordinated and seamless care. My goal is to empower my patients through proactive healthcare engagement, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care and support.
