About Me
As an onco-psychologist at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, I am committed to offering empathetic and personalized care to adults and seniors grappling with the complexities of a cancer diagnosis. My interest in human behavior and life narratives, sparked in my birthplace of Oxford, England, has shaped my approach to healthcare. I am passionate about exploring the connections between culture, sociology, psychology, health, and wellbeing, and how these elements impact a patient’s cancer journey.
My expertise lies in conducting psychological evaluations, devising tailored treatment plans, and delivering mental health treatment with a focus on cancer. I am particularly skilled in assisting patients in adjusting to new cancer diagnoses, offering emotional support during cancer treatments, and enhancing their quality of life. I also manage related conditions such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, existential distress, and PTSD. I employ skills-based interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), meaning-centered psychotherapy (MCP), and psychodynamic principles, to help patients reframe existential distress and contextualize their pain within their cancer diagnoses.
I have held various roles in the psychology field, from a research assistant in a rehabilitation research unit in Oxford, to a psychologist at NYU Langone’s sub-specialty pediatric infectious diseases clinic at Bellevue. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the psychological and sociological impacts of chronic conditions on individuals and their recovery processes. My proactive approach to healthcare engagement is also reflected in my research work, where I have contributed to national research projects examining the psychological effects of traumatic brain injury and stroke.
My fascination with psychology began in Oxford, where I was intrigued by the study of human behavior and interaction. This interest led me to a career in psychology, focusing on the intersection of culture, sociology, psychology, health, and wellbeing. Today, as part of the NYU Langone team, I am privileged to work alongside dedicated professionals, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care for my patients. The most rewarding aspect of my work is helping patients achieve personal goals and resume their lives after cancer.
