Sunwoo Hong, DO

As an NYU Langone hospitalist, I see patients admitted to the hospital. I treat patients who have a broad range of conditions—everything from simple illnesses requiring hospital resources to complex conditions affecting multiple organ systems, which require coordinating care with different subspecialty consultants. My full attention is directed toward their hospital care.

Throughout my undergraduate education, my father was in and out of the hospital. After watching and listening to the doctors who took care of him, I knew being a physician was what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, my father passed away from pancreatic cancer while I was in medical school. This earth-shattering life event altered the way I approach and view medicine. It’s a major reason why I chose to specialize in hospital medicine. I am dedicated to helping and taking care of patients who are sick and at their most vulnerable.

It’s advantageous to our wellbeing to be educated about our health problems. I love to teach patients about their disease and treatment options. These conversations allow us to share in the decisions to make the best medical plan.

When I am not caring for patients in the hospital, I am involved with teaching the next generation of doctors through our medical school and residency program.
