Derek Mason, MD

As a dedicated chest radiologist at NYU Langone, I am passionate about providing care through advanced imaging techniques. My journey into medicine was inspired by personal health challenges during my first year of college, which underscored the critical importance of excellent healthcare. This realization led me to shift my career path to medicine, and I have never looked back.

I specialize in interpreting all modalities of chest imaging, with a particular interest in lung cancer screening, vascular imaging, and interstitial lung disease. With 16 years of experience at NYU Langone, I have honed my skills and expertise in these areas, ensuring that my patients receive the highest quality of care.

Throughout my career, I have focused on leveraging the latest imaging technologies to enhance patient outcomes. I lead a team of 11 remote cardiothoracic radiologists who, alongside our esteemed colleagues at the NYC campus, form one of the largest and most respected academic groups of cardiothoracic imagers in the nation. Our collaborative approach ensures that patients benefit from coordinated, seamless care across the NYU Langone Health system.

The rapid technological advances in radiology have allowed me to continue my work remotely, even after fulfilling family obligations that took me away from New York City. I am proud to be part of NYU Langone, where I can contribute to a team dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients.
