Lauren Z. Foster, MD

As a pediatric hospitalist at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, I provide compassionate, individualized care to my patients and their families. My medical career was inspired by my father, a dedicated physician. My childhood memories of playing with his stethoscope and witnessing his commitment to his patients led me to pursue a career in pediatrics, where I could make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and their families.

I specialize in caring for a diverse pediatric population, managing a range of diagnoses including chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and care after surgery. I prioritize ensuring thorough communication with patients and their families by explaining diagnoses, test results, and next steps through Family-Centered Rounds. My role involves coordinating with various subspecialists and surgeons to create comprehensive care plans and working closely with our nursing, child life, and social work colleagues to provide holistic care.

As the medical director of the newborn nursery at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital, I collaborate with obstetricians and nurses to ensure that welcoming a new family member is a memorable and positive experience. Our goal is to provide high-quality medical care for newborns, while supporting and educating parents during this important journey.

Throughout my career, I have focused on quality improvement research, aiming to implement new processes and guidelines that reflect research-informed care and best practices in communication with families. My work emphasizes improving hospital-to-home transitions and promoting high-value care for children and newborns who are hospitalized.

I believe in approaching each patient as an individual, incorporating both research-informed care and shared decision-making with families to ensure the best outcomes. At NYU Langone, I am proud to be part of a team that values coordinated care and prioritizes the wellbeing of our patients.
