Shacelles Bonner, MD

As an emergency medicine physician at NYU Langone, I provide comprehensive and compassionate care to all my patients. Growing up in Dallas Castle, Jamaica, I witnessed firsthand the critical need for accessible healthcare in underserved communities. This early exposure inspired me to pursue a career in medicine, with a focus on making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

I specialize in emergency medicine, with a particular interest in simulation-based education and patient safety. With extensive years of experience, I have honed my skills in managing a wide variety of acute conditions, from pediatric emergencies to geriatric care. My training includes a residency in emergency medicine and a fellowship in simulation at Yale, where I focused on curriculum development and global simulation initiatives. These experiences have equipped me with the expertise to handle complex medical situations efficiently and effectively.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to proactive healthcare engagement and community outreach. I have participated in numerous initiatives, such as providing diabetes education, collecting items for the unhoused, and developing a simulation academy for high school students. My work in simulation aims to test system changes, promote patient quality and safety, and create innovative curricula for resident education. At NYU Langone, I strive to drive innovation in healthcare delivery while supporting communities negatively impacted by social determinants of health.

After moving to the United States, I quickly recognized the pervasive health illiteracy in poor black, indigenous, and people of color communities, which further strengthened my commitment to medicine. My passion for emergency medicine was solidified during the Emerging Health Professionals Program at the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, where I discovered my love for the variety of cases and the vital role of the emergency room as the first point of contact for patients.
