NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Trauma Center has been verified as an adult Level 1 Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Trauma Center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
“As Nassau County’s only trauma center with full adult and pediatric capabilities, NYU Winthrop is proud to receive verification as an adult Level 1 Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons,” said John F. Collins, president and CEO of NYU Winthrop Hospital. “This achievement signifies our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care to those who sustain serious injuries.”
“While NYU Winthrop has always provided trauma care, this verification significantly raises the standards,” said Alex Axelrad, MD, chief of trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery at NYU Winthrop Hospital. “I am proud of everyone who helped make this verification possible, it truly was a team effort.”
“This is a wonderful achievement for NYU Winthrop Hospital, and a huge asset to the community,” said Barry M. Rosenthal, MD, chairman of emergency medicine at NYU Winthrop. “All those involved in our pursuit of ACS Level 1 Trauma Center certification should be congratulated. Our community should also know they will receive the best trauma care possible if the unfortunate need should arise.”
