On June 9, attendees packed into Murphy Auditorium for the third annual TEDxNYU Langone Health event. Hosted by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the event brought together leaders from across the institution to present powerful talks on the theme “Beyond Boundaries—Innovating for a Healthier Tomorrow.”
Each speaker showcased unique experiences, sharing how helping patients understand the math behind risk can lead to more-informed healthcare decisions, or how an act as simple as holding hands can have transformative effects on patient care.
“We created this event because your ideas matter. Stories matter. Human connections matter. And when you bring those things together in a room like this, something interesting happens,” said Miriam A. Bredella, MD, MBA, director of the CTSI and associate dean for translational science. “You start to see medicine differently. You start to see science differently. Sometimes you even start to see yourself differently.”
The talks spanned many topics, but a single theme united them all. Every presentation highlighted that meaningful innovation stems only from empathy and human connection. They reflected the exceptional work happening across NYU Langone and the various ideas vital to building a better, healthier tomorrow.
“After hearing from this inspiring group, my hope is that you leave this evening with a renewed sense of curiosity and perspective—something you carry back into your work, your research, your classrooms, your clinics, and your conversations with patients and colleagues,” said Dean and CEO Alec C. Kimmelman, MD, PhD. “Because medicine moves forward when thoughtful people remain open to new ideas and continue asking better questions.”
