NYU Langone Heart Now Provides Patients with High-Quality Cardiac Care in Their Community Without Having to Travel to Manhattan
NYU Langone Heart has dramatically expanded the scope of cardiology services offered at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, building on the Sunset Park hospital’s commitment to offering Brooklyn residents a wide range of advanced procedures right in their local community, without having to travel to Manhattan.
With the recently renovated catheterization laboratories, the addition of nationally renowned cardiac electrophysiologist Felix Yang, MD, his partners Yury Malyshev, MD, and Thomas Bustros, MD, and the nurses, advanced practice providers, and entire support staff, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is now able to perform complex percutaneous coronary interventions, cardiac electrophysiology procedures in all chambers of the heart, and other advanced heart procedures.
“Everyone at NYU Langone is driven by the goal of providing one consistently high standard of care at every location, every time. Part of that means ensuring access to highly specialized services right in their community, and that’s what we’re doing once again with NYU Langone Heart in Brooklyn,” said Bret J. Rudy, MD, executive vice president and chief of hospital operations at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. “Now, Brooklynites can receive truly comprehensive cardiac care, including complex heart procedures, close to home.”
Previously, patients requiring advanced procedures had to travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan, creating inconveniences for both patients and their families. This expansion streamlines care and eliminates the need for most of these relocations, making specialized cardiac treatment more accessible than ever.
“With heart disease being the leading cause of death in the United States, the expansion of our cardiac capabilities significantly improves our ability to provide advanced, world-class care right here in Brooklyn and continue to make an impactful difference in our patients’ lives,” said Dr. Yang.
Over the past eight years, since the former Lutheran Medical Center merged with NYU Langone Health, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn has been transformed, offering comprehensive, high-quality care across specialties to the community. It is recognized by The Leapfrog Group as an A-rated hospital in Brooklyn for patient safety, and it is the only comprehensive cancer center in the borough designated by the National Cancer Institute, a testament to the hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class care to patients where they live.
NYU Langone Heart is ranked second in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery programs by U.S. News & World Report and holds a prestigious three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for expertise in mitral valve replacement and repair, aortic valve repair, and coronary artery bypass.
NYU Langone Health is a world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center, with a culture rooted in excellence in patient care, education, and research. Vizient Inc. has ranked NYU Langone the No. 1 comprehensive academic medical center in the country for three years in a row, and U.S. News & World Report recently placed nine of its clinical specialties among the top five in the nation. NYU Langone offers a comprehensive range of medical services across 6 inpatient locations, its Perlmutter Cancer Center, and more than 300 outpatient locations across the New York area and Florida. With $14 billion in revenue this year, the system also includes two medical schools, in Manhattan and on Long Island, and a vast research enterprise.
