NYU Langone Health expanded its presence at the Town of Huntington Senior Center’s Community Health Fair on September 9, bringing health screenings, lifesaving skills training, and fall prevention education to older adults on Long Island.

The Town of Huntington has hosted the health fair for years, and NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group has long taken part. This year, for the first time, additional NYU Langone teams joined the fair, expanding the health system’s presence to five tables and representing a broader range of services focused on the needs of seniors.

“Our line was constantly long. We were able to provide so many different types of screenings and demonstrations to the seniors in the Town of Huntington,” said Kaitlyn Pizzuto, MHA, senior manager of community affairs for Long Island at NYU Langone. “We were excited to provide glucose screenings, on-the-spot results, education, and care connectivity to make this event bigger and more impactful than ever—and, of course, to support the needs of our seniors.”

The Department of Emergency Medical Services, Nassau Division, provided CPR and Stop the Bleed training and conducted more than 55 glucose and blood pressure screenings. Attendees received their results immediately, and EMS team members recommended follow-up visits with a doctor when readings were elevated.

NYU Langone Health Home Care offered community-based education on fall prevention, while the NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group highlighted services available to community members.

For many attendees, the fair was also a chance to learn what kinds of care are available close to home.

“It’s important for them to know that NYU Langone can provide home care services over there,” said Pizzuto. “That may not be something that people really know is available to them.”

Looking ahead, Pizzuto sees room to grow. “Seeing how well received our screenings were, there’s even more opportunity next year to continue our growth and our presence at this type of event.”
