Many patients are relieved to reschedule surgeries that were postponed due to the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“I’m glad I got it done now,” says Roger, who was able to get a right hip replacement in June after an initial postponement. “If a second wave of the coronavirus comes, then what happens? If you need one of these procedures, get it done as quickly as possible.”
Roger’s surgeon, William Macaulay, MD, the Dr. William and Susan Jaffe Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and chief of the Division of Adult Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, tells the New York Post that NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital postponed about 700 elective total joint replacement surgeries over approximately 2 months. “We are in the process of catching up on all those postponements,” he says.
