A diagnosis of colon cancer can be overwhelming. Paul E. Oberstein, MD, an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and director of the Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology Program at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, shares some tips with HealthCentral to help people with colon cancer to better cope with their diagnosis.
Some of the strategies Dr. Oberstein recommends to make living with colon cancer more manageable include seeking social support from family and friends—as well as others going through the same experience—following a healthy diet, and exercising regularly.
“We have seen this over and over,” says Dr. Oberstein. “People who make it a priority to stay active have better outcomes.”
