There are several online platforms where the transgender and nonbinary community share their personal experiences and recommendations for gender-affirming surgery. One surgeon who is revered by patients and receives a preponderance of referrals for “top” surgery is NYU Langone’s reconstructive plastic surgeon Alexes Hazen, MD, an associate professor in the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery. “Top” surgery includes chest masculinization for trans masculine patients and breast augmentation for transfeminine patients.

When asked why she’s acquired such a following from grateful patients, Dr. Hazen shares: “From early on I just had the attitude of equality and dignity and respect for my patients, all my patients, so I just extended that…That doesn’t seem like much of a stretch to me: that we treat people fairly and equally.”
