Kevin Moore, BSN, RN, assistant director for LGBTQ+ clinical services, and Valerie T. Terzano, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, vice president for nursing and patient care at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, are among the honorees featured in an annual list of Notable LGBTQ+ Leaders from Crain’s New York Business.
Moore oversees a system-wide initiative to advocate for and educate on the clinical and cultural needs of LGBTQ+ patients and has cowritten several hospital policies regarding the needs of transgender and nonbinary people. He worked with NYU Langone’s Office of Human Resources to cowrite the hospital system’s gender transition guidelines covering staff. Clinically, Moore guides patients through the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods of gender-affirming surgery.
In her role, Terzano provides comprehensive oversight for professional nursing and related standards of care at the 591-bed hospital. She also oversees other areas, including professional development of staff, nursing research, and bed utilization.
Terzano founded and co-chairs an LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island that has 65 representatives from admitting, home healthcare, spiritual care, human resources, physicians, and other areas.
Both Moore’s and Terzano’s leadership have led to NYU Langone’s designation as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group in the United States.
