With so many milestones in a baby’s first year, it’s easy for a new parent to worry if their baby doesn’t seem to be progressing as quickly as other children. Talking to POPSUGAR, Robin S. Jacobson, MD, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, reminds parents that all children are different, and “the best source of developmental milestones is your pediatrician.”

Although these milestones can give parents an idea of expected timing, Dr. Jacobson stresses that “parents hear a lot about autism and developmental delay, but most children are normal and will thrive in a loving, happy home.”
