Paywall* Crain’s New York Business (2/6) reports, “The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases has awarded researchers at NYU Langone Health, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health System, and UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine a $13 million grant to build a national center around equity in Type 2 diabetes research, the institutions announced this morning.” The National Center for Engagement in Diabetes Equity Research “will aim to create more diabetes research projects that engage in communities and increase health equity, said Nadia S. Islam, PhD, associate professor, Department of Population Health, associate director, Institute for Excellence in Health Equity at NYU Langone.” Islam said, “Our goal is to work with researchers and other stakeholders to provide best practices, trainings consultations on how to partner in research and how to partner in ways that can allow community input from the outset of research.”
NYU Langone Turns Shuttered Long Island Sears Building into $170 Million Ambulatory Center. (DOT Med News)
DOT Med News (2/5) reports, “NYU Langone has transformed a former Bloomingdale’s and Sears building in Garden City into a $170 million, 260,000-square-foot facility with over 800 staff and doctors trained in 32 specialties, who are expected to care for 400,000 patients annually.” The new “NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Garden City is one of 70 outpatient sites on Long Island and one of 300 in New York and Florida under NYU Langone .” Andrew W. Brotman, MD, executive vice president and vice dean for clinical affairs and strategy, and chief clinical officer at NYU Langone Health, said in a statement, “This beautiful new location allows patients to see multiple doctors in a single visit, with each provider connected to the same electronic health record system that ensures integrated care.”

The hospital “has proposed to renovate 15 of its 36 postpartum units to single-occupancy patient rooms that include private showers and bathrooms.” The hospital also “plans to convert its staff lounge to another patient room, as well as tear down a shared shower area to make space for an upgraded staff lounge.”
