NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, and other regional healthcare systems on Long Island, are enhancing local access to cancer care.
“The technology around cancer care, including timely access to a patient’s care, is transformative,” Michael S. Buchholtz, MD, a medical oncologist at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center—Huntington, tells Newsday.
“Within the system, the utilization of this information means better, timely, and more coordinated care,” he adds.
Patients and doctors at NYU Langone utilize MyChart to manage appointments, communicate with physicians, and remotely refill prescriptions through the electronic health record portal, Epic, which is integrated across the entire network.
Donna O’Rourke, a 51-year-old breast cancer survivor from Huntington Station, Long Island, said that the care she received from Dr. Buchholtz and breast surgeon and oncologist Faisal Siddiqui, MD, “allowed me to keep working and helped decrease stress.”
