Cervical Cancer Awareness Month is January. In an interview with News 12 Brooklyn, Kari E. Hacker, MD, PhD, a gynecologic oncologist at NYU Langone Brooklyn Medical Arts Pavilion, discusses the importance of regular screenings and vaccines that are available to prevent cervical cancer and other associated cancers.
“Other countries where they do a better job of vaccinating, like Australia, they have almost eliminated pre–cervical cancer lesions and cervical cancer in young girls,” Dr. Hacker says.
