Having beat 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Jessenia Serrano tells the New York Daily News, “Sometimes I wake up and I can’t believe I’m still here.”
Serrano, 42, had an underlying respiratory condition when she arrived to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn with breathing difficulty and other symptoms of COVID-19 in mid-March. She was discharged safely back home with family two months later.
“All the doctors came downstairs, my rehab doctor, my therapist, everybody was there to cheer me on. I didn’t expect that. It was the best feeling. I started to cry," Serrano says of her May 20 discharge.
