Maria Rodriguez was surrounded by three generations of her family and a sea of jubilant staff when she was escorted out of NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn on Thursday, May 7. She was the hospital’s 850th patient with 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to be discharged.
When Rodriguez was admitted to the hospital, her blood oxygen levels were dangerously low, and she was burning with fever, her daughter Norma Collado tells the New York Daily News.
“Her condition was not so good,” Collado says. “She was praying. She said I only want you to give strength to my daughter because I’m not going to be home for Mother’s Day. She didn’t think she was coming home.”
But, 3 days later, the 87-year-old great-grandmother was ready to head back home to be with her family for Mother’s Day.
