In order to avoid receiving additional chemotherapy after developing metastatic triple-negative breast cancer, Karen Peterson contacted Daniel C. Cho, MD, associate professor in the Department of Medicine and director of the Phase 1 Drug Development Program at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, about a clinical trial he was conducting. Declared a “complete responder” by Dr. Cho in June 2020, Ms. Peterson now educates people with cancer to advocate for themselves and seek out second opinions.
“I must say, the person I trust most is my principal investigator at NYU Langone, Dr. Daniel Cho,” Ms. Peterson tells The CRI Blog. “He was the one who picked up the phone and told me about the clinical trial that saved my life. I have a couple of doctors here and there, but he is number one when it comes to how I decide in regards to managing my healthcare. Our trust was an earned trust. He’s very humble. He is all about doing his job and saving lives.”
