A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics found the activities most frequently bringing young people to the emergency department include football, basketball, bicycling, and soccer.

“We’re seeing a lot of overuse injuries, and if someone sticks to one sport, they’re certainly at risk of injury,” says Dr. Cardone, who is also an associate professor in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics. To prevent these injuries, he encourages participation in a wide variety of activities.
