On August 16, 2018, NYU School of Medicine announced that it is offering full-tuition scholarships to all current and future students in its MD degree program regardless of need or merit.
“There were gasps, there was some quiet, there was some screaming,” says Rafael Rivera, MD, MBA, associate dean for admissions and financial aid, describing the scene after Ken Langone made the announcement to the incoming Class of 2022. “And then all of a sudden, the chants started getting louder and louder. And before you knew it, the audience had erupted into cheers of joy.”
