Our Approach to Treating

Vascular Malformations in the Torso & Limbs

Vascular malformations are a group of blood vessel disorders that are usually present at birth. Some are harmless, though visible on the skin. Other more serious malformations involve clusters or tangles of veins and arteries inside the body. Some may require treatment to prevent painful nerve or organ compression or, less commonly, internal bleeding.

NYU Langone doctors are experts at managing vascular malformations in the chest, abdomen, pelvis, arms, and legs. Our treatment team may include vascular surgeons; interventional radiologists; plastic surgeons; dermatologists; hematologists, who specialize in diseases of the blood; otolaryngologists, doctors who manage ear, nose and throat and problems; and pediatricians.

Our vascular surgeons are leaders in the field. They train visiting surgeons from around the world in the most innovative procedures.

Treatment for Vascular Malformations in the Torso and Limbs

Some vascular malformations require no treatment. Others may be monitored closely for signs of organ or nerve compression, pain, or internal bleeding. When treatment is needed, our doctors may perform surgery, usually with minimally invasive techniques.
