Our Approach to Treating

Acoustic Neuroma

Acoustic neuroma, also called vestibular schwannoma, is a benign brain tumor that develops on the nerves that run between the inner ear and the brainstem. Our doctors use sophisticated imaging and hearing tests to diagnose acoustic neuromas. We also offer advanced approaches to surgery, and provide highly targeted radiation treatment called stereotactic Gamma Knife® radiosurgery.

We are a high-volume center for acoustic neuroma treatment, which means that our doctors treat a large number of people with these tumors compared with other hospitals in the New York area and throughout the United States.

Treatment for Acoustic Neuroma

Treatment of acoustic neuroma may include watchful waiting, which includes regular imaging tests. Our experts may also recommend surgery to remove the tumor, or radiosurgery, which is the delivery of a single, precise dose of high-level energy, or radiation, to destroy tumor cells.
